Track Name: Rug Out
The rug is out now
out from underneath of me
but I’m still walking
wondering what’s underneath my feet
and the floor, and the house and the earth beneath that
when there’s nothing below me
I walk on air I cross the void
I look down and what I see
emptiness, life without, makes no sense

The rug has been out
from under me before
but this is different
a whole new feeling to explore
How I move, shift my weight, from my left to my right
let my toes grip to balance
I walk on air I cross the void
I look down and what I see
emptiness, life without, makes no sense

So what am I gripping when
I put my weight down
if the rug is out from under me?
maybe I’ll stop wondering for while
floating so numb grief will keep me up
and in a year or so come back down

But I don’t want to be numb
lose my grip as I lose her
keep me on this earth
dig my heels down, carve with my bare hands
where comfort is where life begins
and where death goes to live
again so this is why
the rug comes out from under us so
naked we put our soles on the ground
so we are born and so we die
naked we put our souls in the ground
and where death goes to live
this is why
Track Name: So Many Rainbows
So many rainbows on that day
I could not count them all
my shipmates tired of hearing me say
look there’s another
I saw yellow, green, blue and red
come out of the air
I saw the colored arcs of light
touch the surface of the sea

Only with too many rainbows
could I’ve been aware
could I’ve been ready
for the wave that comes out of nothing
for the wave that comes out of nothing
for the wave that comes out of nothing
light through water equals color

My shipmates tire of my constant exclamations
turning away from me
at last night’s party
who wants to hear ‘bout another person dying
look over there, look over there
still I sit with her where she lies under blankets
and unread magazines
waiting for death to emerge from the air
and set her free
Track Name: Simply Voices
tonight as I hang up the phone
it’s the sound of her thoughts
that so satisfies me
our long talk
has stretched us through time
and the world that we know
is more than what we can see

we are simply voices
traveling through the line
we feel so close
though we’re far a part
I feel as if we
see different places
with same eyes we the same eyes
though we’re far a part

the sound of her voice on the line
weaving, breathing, opening
my eyes and ears to hear her
first call my name
I wonder will I get to be the last

tonight as I hang up the phone
it’s the sound of her thoughts
that so satisfies me
our long talk
has stretched us through time
and the world that we know
is more than what we can see

her voice over the line
has said so many words
breathed so many sighs
in her lifetime
her voice was the first
I ever heard calling my name
I wonder will, will mine be the last?

When she leaves and leave she must
the night sky will be pale without stars
and I will look up into the canopy of green
and remember
the sound of her voice on the line
weaving, breathing, opening
my eyes and ears to hear her
first call my name
I wonder will I get to be the last
Track Name: Such is Love
You ask me why I am
so glad, glad when you are near
you ask even though you
want me to be the one
who says, that ‘I love you’ and
when I do you come through

Eyes closed, lips touch not
looking ahead to where
our road might end we
drive, blind but such is love

Now you ask me why I am
so sad, sad though you are near
you ask even though you
want me to be the one
who sees, what our love has done
when I do you come through

Eyes closed, lips touch not
looking ahead to where
our road might end we
drive, blind but such is love
We cannot see the road ahead
but such is love where we might be
at the roads end but such is love
Track Name: Before
White is the silence between us
as we wake words fall short
see them
in a pile on the floor
fallen on top of one another

words took flight in the air
around us
take my words shift the tense
show you care
showing me that you
understand
that you understand

cause sometimes
the stillness of a room
can absorb a word
before it comes

I get up from our bed
and collect the letters
put them in my pocket
so I can say them again
Track Name: Blueberry Pie
it’s 3am and there’s blueberry pie
just you and I at the table
the house is empty
just a light over the sink

the filling is purple
shiny syrupy liquid
that languidly cloaks the fruit
the crust is flakey
cracked like the desert but golden
and we talk about pie
this perfect circle of our love
his blueberry pie
dark and sweet within, fragile without

we still fight
we still forget
to be good to each other
we still need
to patch things up
still need to remember
to cut holes so the steam escapes

But somehow we’ve made it
managed to line the plate
with one circle of dough
filled it with berries
only fresh in summer
and cover it all
with a circle to bake
this perfect circle of our love
his blueberry pie
dark and sweet within, fragile without

And the time in the oven
is a mystery
the magic of heat and anticipation
we’re melting
into this old fashioned
confection
pie
Track Name: Walking Home
Walking home, summer night
streets are dark, lamp post light
someone opens their window to hear me sing
and the air is sweet and green
leans his face into the night to greet my song
and the tune is easy

Only on this street
far from city lights
and the constant hum of
people on the go
Can I sing my song
and walk so care free
on a summer night
so long ago

And your face, pale and bright
framed by leaves, silver sky
gently so you call my name and open my heart
one summer, long ago
gently show me how to laugh and along we go
even now I dance

Only on this street
far from city lights
and the constant hum of
people on the go
Can I sing my song
and walk so care free
on a summer night
so long ago

Walking home, summer night
streets are dark, lamp post light
Track Name: Remind Me
above the sky
the stars shine bright
though all we see
is darkness

above the clouds
the sun shines through
the are we see is grey sky

under the rocks
the bugs crawl too
though all we see is stone cold

remind me to remember

what is unseen
what is unknown
what is unsaid
travels in my blood

close your eyes
my skin will tell you
the words unspoken
the words unspoken
