So many rainbows on that day
I could not count them all
my shipmates tired of hearing me say
look there’s another
I saw yellow, green, blue and red
come out of the air
I saw the colored arcs of light
touch the surface of the sea

Only with too many rainbows
could I’ve been aware
could I’ve been ready
for the wave that comes out of nothing
for the wave that comes out of nothing
for the wave that comes out of nothing
light through water equals color

My shipmates tire of my constant exclamations
turning away from me
at last night’s party
who wants to hear ‘bout another person dying
look over there, look over there
still I sit with her where she lies under blankets
and unread magazines
waiting for death to emerge from the air
and set her free
